The Kolkhoz – F. Klimenko
This is part of a series of beautiful pamphlets published for the Soviet pavillion at the 1939 world’s fair in New York. These were sold as a collection and packaged in a natty cardboard box by the American distributer. My collection of this series is almost complete, I’m missing two, as far as I know. There are many beatiful pamphlets in this collection and I’ll be posting more as time goes on.
A kolkzok is a collective farm; the forced collectivization of the countryside was violent and traumatic, and resulted in a famine that killed millions. But the design of this cover sure is beautiful.
Soviet Youth at Work and Play – S. Sobolev
Another great image, so optomistic. The scientist, the peasant and the worker walking together into the future.
